Using social media to generate sales

Twitter

By blogging, tweeting and sharing things relevant to your industry, you can build credibility in your field and advertise your products or services at the same time.

So how do you go about it? Start by defining your audience, then use search engines to locate your potential customers, build a social relationship with them by taking part in online discussions and promote your brand and website by placing links back to your site to pages relevant to the discussion.

What should you say in your posts? It's probably best not start out by promoting your brand or website; don't be too direct in your sales pitch. Make the focus on being helpful with "how to's" "why's", be yourself, make it conversational. Tell people your story and focus on things that may help you stand out.

Whether you’re selling specialty clothing or enterprise level software, you probably have significant expertise that you can share with potential customers. Giving away info, hints, tips and how-to articles or posting pictures and tweets can bring your company in front of new potential customers. Posting content online on your blog, Facebook page, twitter or other websites has the potential to boost your brand, search engine placement and traffic at very little or no cost.
